A close second to ESPGALUDA II graphic-wise, DoDonpachi Dai-Fukkatsu 1.5 is a feast for your eyes with it’s neon-colour bullet spam, gyrating lasers and sweet soundtrack. If you get the DLC for Black Label, you can play all the modes on the 1.5 disc with the phenomenal Black Label soundtrack. Personally, I prefer the Black Label to 1.5, but I really enjoyed the arrange modes on this disc (Arrange B is my favourite), so it’s a keeper even though the retail release of Black Label (with the Ketsui Style arrange mode) is what I prefer putting my time into (the arrange Ketsui soundtrack is amazing!) and you don’t have to own the 1.5 disc to play the Black Label if you get the retail version. The Novice mode for 1.5 is really fun for those of you new to the genre, but as this is a Japan only release as I write this, I bet you’re already hooked on shmups if you possess an NTSC-J machine and want a challenge. My issue with 1.5 though is that the challenge lies in the scoring, that’s extremely hard to get into unless you love chaining. Most people won’t reach the second score extend.
